Their second album 'The Illusion of Safety' was released 16th August 2010 and its first single 'Choices' reached #11 on the UK Download Charts immediately. Under the label RCA, they released their first album, The Trick to Life on 22 October 2007, which songs are about more than just "boy and girl, finding love on a Friday night on the lash with your mates". Back in London, Alphonso and Irwin met Swiss keyboard player and sound engineer Duri Darms, and Martin Skarendahl, a Swedish ex-fireman who was then working with Darms as a recording studio engineer and studying at The London Music School. The story behind The Hoosiers started in the United States where Alphonso Sharland and Irwin Sparkes, encouraged by their chemistry teacher (Grant Serpell who was part of the band Sailor during their fame in the 1970s), started to write and gather enough songs to compile an album. They released their debut album, The Trick to Life, in October 2007. They also treated us to an acoustic performance of. Their first single "Worried about Ray" reached #5 on the UK Singles Chart in July 2007. The Hoosiers came to Lincoln at the weekend and spoke to us about their new album The Secret Service. Coming from Exeter, Reading and Stockholm, the band produce music influenced by The Cure, Jeff Buckley, The Flaming Lips and XTC. ![]() The Hoosiers are Irwin Sparkes (vocals, guitar), Martin Skarendahl (bass and guitar for acoustic performances) and Alphonso Sharland (drums).
